«The Smiths» – the British group of 80th years. Its main participants were guitarist John Maher, the river on October and vocalist Morrissi (Stephen Patrick Morrissi, the river on May, 22nd 1959). Smiths, taken to itself deliberately plain name (Smiths) «in peak» to pop culture 80 from it names and the senseless musical maintenance, from the very beginning of the existence represented the present ball of contradictions. Contradictions existed and between its participants, first of all between guitarist Marrom and vocalist Morrissi, in other as well as in the person Morrissi, one of the most disputable, and at the same time influential and adored figures of the world of alternative music.

Johnny Marr, very rock'n'roll person, the outstanding guitarist and the author, rather sociable, sociable person, was sharp contrast of Morrissi - eternally not understood, sentimental, vulnerable and aloof poet-vegetarian creating under obvious influence of the English-Irish writer and playwright Oscar Uajlda.

However Morrissi, on external displays representing an image of the diffident romantic loser, also embodied also much more rigid social position. Its sharp, ironic verses with ambiguous implied sense generated constant charges in every possible sins, including in the British nationalism and racism, on what, it is necessary to recognize, there were some bases: Morrissi never hid the contempt to rather popular at that time a reggae-music and to other "dirty" Black directions and actively supported skinheads.
