Lu Read (Lewis Alan Reed) was one of the basic participants of well-known group The Velvet Underground (with 1965 for 1970), not received big popularity during existence, but subsequently appreciated as the foundress of alternative fate, and one of the most important groups of time.

New York was born on March, 2nd 1942 in Brooklyn. Parents encouraged its employment by music, and already in 15 years he participated in a disk recording as a part of group The Jades. In 17 years Lu has been subjected an electroshock therapy, – thus parents wanted to cure it of the shown homosexual bents. This experience Read has remembered well also long time didn't support any relations with parents.

In the late fifties Lu Read has arrived in Sirakuzsky university on literature branch. He wanted to become the writer. At university has got acquainted with Delmore Schwartz, the talented poet and the prose writer. Before the Second World War Schwarz was one of the most promising American authors, but at the moment of their acquaintance, taught at university and became an inveterate drunkard. It became the teacher and young Read's instructor, about it there is a speech to compositions «The House» from an album «Blue Mask».

At university Read has got acquainted with the guitarist Sterling Morrison (Sterling Morrison) which was a part subsequently Velvet Underground.

After the termination of university Read in 1964 worked as the sessional musician in the New York studio of firm «Pikvik records». He wrote down guitar parties for various executors, and also wrote for them popular songs in various styles. Hide review
